Protection for unpaid work participants

Not-for-profit Law has written to Victoria's Department of Justice in relation to the Wrongs Act

In December 2014 Not-for-profit Law wrote to the Department of Justice in relation to protections for unpaid work participants. There are a number of programs that allow or require people to undertake unpaid work for community organisations, however it is unclear whether such participants technically meet the definition of volunteer set out in section 35 of the Wrongs Act.

Submitted in conjunction with Volunteering Victoria, this letter requested consideration of Part IX of the Wrongs Act and clarification over whether section 37 applies to these new types of unpaid work. The letter can be read below.
